Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208. Offshore storm direction may distinguish between an event a typical experienced at nearshore. Using state-of-the-art spectral (SW) model, the purposes this study are: (1) to investigate transformation waves from offshore nearshore along coastline two opposite directions (northerly southerly); (2) analyse energy density spectrum. The SW model was calibrated considering various mesh resolutions lateral wind forcing with different field resolutions. results show that longshore attenuation gradient exists southerly swell, primarily due degrees sheltering provided by headland. In contrast, coast essentially becomes open northerly swells, thereby producing significant reduction in attenuation. spectrum indicates pattern varies depending on direction. Both storms produce wide range frequencies directions. However, swells only single-peaked spectrum, while double-peaked is observed presence prevailing swells. This highlights when predominate abrupted.

Wave Motion and Stop-Bands in Pipes with Helical Characteristics Using Wave Finite Element Analysis

Pipes are widely used in many industrial and mechanical applications and devices. Although there are many different constructions according to the specific application and device, these can show helical pattern, such as spiral pipes, wire-reinforced pipes/shells, spring-suspension, and so on. Theoretical modelling of wave propagation provides a prediction about the dynamic behavior, and it is f...

Nearshore Wave-topography Interactions

The principal focus of this program has been on understanding the nearshore problem from a top down point of view. At time scales longer than storm periods and length scales larger than 100 meters, the behavior of the nearshore appears surprisingly complex, with subtantial interannual variability and variability on all scales. We believe that this results from feedback between the fluid and bat...

Corrigendum: Influence of Anthropogenic Climate Change on Planetary Wave Resonance and Extreme Weather Events

Persistent episodes of extreme weather in the Northern Hemisphere summer have been shown to be associated with the presence of high-amplitude quasi-stationary atmospheric Rossby waves within a particular wavelength range (zonal wavenumber 6-8). The underlying mechanistic relationship involves the phenomenon of quasi-resonant amplification (QRA) of synoptic-scale waves with that wavenumber range...

Analysis of Weather Generators: Extreme Events

Stochastic weather generators (WGs) are often used to simulate synthetic weather time series based on observed statistical properties in a particular location. Most studies evaluate WG skill based on average properties. Our objective is to assess how the WGs performs in simulating extremes, especially high precipitation amounts. We analyzed 13 different WGs using two parallel approaches: extrem...

Numerical modeling of the effects of wave energy converter characteristics on nearshore wave conditions

Modeled nearshore wave propagation was investigated downstream of simulated wave energy converters (WECs) to evaluate overall nearand far-field effects of WEC arrays. Model sensitivity to WEC characteristics and WEC array deployment scenarios was evaluated using a modified version of an industry standard wave model, Simulating WAves Nearshore (SWAN), which allows the incorporation of device-spe...
